24 hours in hue
we arrived a little before dinner so we got washed up and had a massage at the hotel spa.
dinner: cơm hến
bb clam rice with peanuts, herbs, and chicharrones. a and i absolutely loved this. it came with this great broth on the side that reminded me of 콩나물국 kind of
we also ordered this hen xao, which is the stir fried version sans rice.
com ruou - which after my 200 day vietnamese streak on duolingo i was able to interpret to mean rice alcohol. this was sweet, sweeter than 막걸리, almost like 식혜 but it was alcoholic :)
we also met two sweet babies that reminded me of our friends' pets, summer and mephisto.

the next morning
still jet lagged, i took a walk around the hotel grounds
this place was so beautiful, it's relatively small though, so i ventured outside to walk around for a little longer. the hotel is on a very quiet street, away from hue's busy downtown. i could hear a rooster crowing. and people were on their morning walks
breakfast
after all that walking around, a still hadn't gotten up so i thought i'd get myself some coffee.
there was some kind of miscommunication between me and the hotel staff i thought they were telling me i had to order food to sit on the balcony, so i asked for some bread and ended up getting a basket of bread, a plate of fruit, and a cup of yogurt as well.
oops. well i was allergic to all these fruits basically, so when the guy asked me if i wanted anything else, i was like "in for a croissant in for a bò né, right?"
egg fry 때깔 ㅁㅊ
a woke up and had my fruit. he said the mango was so so good. and how could it not be from that COLOR.
we met up with our tour guide, matthew.
we went on the tour with this very nice retired couple from california.
we met some ducks too
after the tour we rushed back to check out and came back to a surprise :)
i was also allergic to this :( bc i was pretty sure it was passionfruit but that's okay! i had one bite and the texture was so soft and spongy and im glad i got to enjoy that one bite.
lunch: bún bò huế
we ordered a "mixed" and a "special" and to this day i am unsure what the difference was.
a and i joked that they just call in bun bo here because the "hue" in bun bo hue is because it originates from here. like how they just call it fries in france or salad in nice. i feel like it was my first time having this dish. like i have ordered bun bo hue in the states, but what i had was NOT the same as what this was. that CRAB BALL was AMAZING i could eat like ten of those things.
i'm not the biggest fan of blood which is the stuff that i broke up at the bottom of my bowl to make it look like i ate more of it bc i didn't want to disappoint the aunties.
im not sure if that's because i know what it is, or if it is the taste, but when it rests on my tongue it feels thick and heavy and it connects with my brain too much in the way that eggs will sometimes when i have too many of them at once.
after lunch it was time to wait for the train.
a had a bazing! idea! and we walked 3 minutes across the bridge to the lobby of a very fancy hotel, where we could sit in air conditioning and use their nice bathrooms. we got some choux <3, a san pelligrino, two whiskys and a coke. it was definitely on the more expensive side of things, but somehow still cost less than getting two cocktails in nyc.
the train ride
this train ride is famous for its beautiful views.
up next: fancy hotel time
