ha noi - our last day
walkin' around
an embarrassment of riches in the us rn
breakfast: pho
delicious. i understand that at its core it really is the same ingredients, but I find this impossible to compare to the other bowls of pho we had. they are simply just so different.
snack: bánh giầy giò
this little snack stole my heart.
it's basically a vietnamese sausage sandwich with mochi bread. i love mochi textures, i find them to be so comforting and satisfying. this mochi was the perfect canvas for the porky flavor and spongy texture of the sausage. i understand why they call them sandwich artists now.
lunch: bun cha
i know it seems like we just ate but actually there was a whole nap and spa session (scalp and hair treatment for h and massage for a) in between breakfast and lunch.
this is the place that AB took obama to in parts unknown all those years ago. the food is not disappointing, which is good because i think i'm typically skeptical of places that blow up like this. the bun cha i think is on the sweeter side slightly. interestingly, unlike the other places we went, the pickled veg like chayote and carrots were pre-loaded into the broth.
they famously have enshrined this table for posterity.
the nem hai san (seafood spring rolls), were INCREDIBLY THICC. i personally prefer the thinner ones because i feel like you get a better ratio of meat to crisp, but i can see the appeal of a mouthful of meat, seafood, and mushrooms.
adventurin'
this sh*t was actually so scary. i usually don't scream on rollercoasters because i know what's coming, but i was wholly unprepared for this experience.
i just want to shout out no where spa again. this is where i did the scalp treatment earlier in the day and you can tell because my hair literally looks so smooth, like whose hair is that? i literally don't recognize her.
dinner: bánh cuốn
incredibly delicate and thin crepe made with rice batter filled with minced pork and wood ear mushrooms. this was awesome.
we ordered one that was just egg too as our stomachs were slowing down three days into eating all the time. the chinese sausage charmed my taste buds--
and this tiny calamansi with a hat charmed my heart.
on our way home we stumbled into this market
we did not try the shoe bread.
